THE UK'S BEST SELF DRIVE CANAL HOLIDAYS AND DAYS OUT ABOARD SUPERB NARROWBOATS
2 - 4* BERTH 47FT
BATH / OXFORD / WINDSOR
OVERVIEW
PERFECT BOAT FOR COUPLES: GREAT FOR SMALLER FAMILIES ON A BUDGET
These centrally heated boats offer super-comfy and cosy accomodation for a couple - we grade this as a 5* boat for 2pp - featuring 2 comfy armchairs, 2 folding chairs for dining indoors or alfresco, and a removeable dining table - easily stored out of the way when not in use. For a young family on a budget, a folding double z-bed can be set up in the lounge each night, suitable for children to share*. The bathroom features a bath/shower and the 6ft 6" main double bed has a memory-foam mattress. The cruiser stern offers seating and space for all the party to cruise together and there's a cockpit at the front of the boat for those who wish to while away the hours quietly enjoying the ever-unfolding vista as they cruise along.
As with all the Oxfordshire Narrowboats fleet these boats were designed and built by us at Heyford Wharf based on years of boating and boat hiring experience. We were the first company to standardise our fleet with ‘reverse layout’ narrowboats which mean that the living area is at the rear of the boat allowing a more sociable cruising experience with the steerer and crew not being at opposite ends of the boat! All of our boats feature super-silenced, economical, modern marine diesel engines with plenty of power for river work on the Thames, Kennet, and Avon. They are widely regarded as some of the easiest handling holiday hire narrowboats around.....and don’t forget that Oxfordshire Narrowboats offer the most friendly, comprehensive boat handling training afloat!
* the capacity of 4pp on the boat is ONLY for smaller/ younger children to utilise: these boats are NOT suitable for more than 2 adults (who would share the main double bed). The folding Z bed (by definition) has a thinner mattress than a permanent double bed and is not considered suitable for adult use. Note that when the Z bed is extended the armchairs are stored out of use at one end of the lounge
MORE INFORMATION
Detailed Description
A level cruiser stern deck (which means that there is lots of space to socialise with family and friends...and the skipper!) makes for easy boarding. Through the handcrafted glazed hardwood rear cabin doors there are three steps down to the cabin which is all on one level and has 6ft 6” headroom at the centre, fully carpeted except in galley and bathroom areas which feature non-slip safety lino.
Stepping inside, the lounge/saloon features two reclining armchairs, a fold-down table and dining chairs and the option of a folding double Z-bed for smaller/ younger guests. The DVD TV is located here, as are the 240V sockets. There’s a breakfast bar with shelves and a cupboard under, leading into the compact galley which nonetheless features a standard domestic 4-hob gas cooker and under-counter electric fridge – fully equipped with all kitchenware and crockery, cutlery & glassware for up to 4pp. We also include dishwashing kit and a complementary starter kit of rubbish bags, soaps and toilet rolls -we feature Ecover cleaning products to do all we can to care for the environment.
Moving forward, the bathroom (toilet, washbasin, shower and small bath) is to one side of a short corridor before you reach the main bedroom (fixed/ double bed) and then to the front door which opens out into a seated bow cockpit.
Storage consists of a wardrobe (hangers provided) in the main bedroom, a low-level hanging/kitchen cupboard under the breakfast bar, and two heated cupboards on the rearmost cabin wall which are ideal for coats, drying items, boots etc.
Central Heating is provided by a diesel heater powering radiators...and the cabin is also spray-foam insulated throughout.
Drinking Water enough tanked drinking water for at least two full days’ cruising even if you both have a daily shower. (We’ll show you how and where to refill the water tank when we show you round on arrival).
Lighting We were the first hirefleet to standardise on low-power eco-friendly LED lighting throughout – soft LEDs for the bedroom areas, brighter LEDs for the galley and bathrooms. Individual berth lights.
240V Electricity is powered from an inverter which itself uses battery power: the maximum load is up to 800W so is suitable for appliance charging and lower powered hair straighteners/ dryers etc. The inverter cannot be left on overnight and for this reason we do not recommend reliance on 240V for health-critical medical machines e.g. breathing/ sleep apnoea etc etc. Note that the 240V sockets are at the rear of the lounge only.
